Empirisme is 'n filosofiese stroming waarin gestel word dat kennis uit die ervaring voortspruit. Die empirisme word tradisioneel beskou as 'n filosofie wat die teenoorgestelde verteenwoordig van die rasionalisme, wat die rede en die denke aanwys as vernaamste kennisbron. Dit verwerp ook alle filosofiese stromminge wat beweer aangebore kennis bestaan. Volgens die empirisme beskik die mens oor geen vorm van aangebore kennis nie en moet sy gees (gedagtes) beskou word as 'n skoon bladsy (tabula rasa). Die empirisme speel vernaamlik 'n rol in die epistemologie asook in die filosofie van die gees.
In die antieke filosofie kom al bepaalde vorme van empirisme voor in die werk van Aristoteles en Epikurus.
