Eugene Herbert Henry, Jr.
Deacon Eugene Herbert Henry, Jr. was the fourth child born to Professor Eugene Herbert Henry, Sr. and Mamie A. Jackson Henry on January 17, 1929. Eugene accepted Christ as his personal savior at Elm Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. H. Harris. He gained additional spiritual guidance under the leaderships of Rev. Namon Williams and currently, Rev. Hollis Lemons. He was a faithful member of Elm Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.
Eugene was a hard-working man that provided for his family. While working on the Henry farm, he also worked at Blue Roan Bend Sand & Gravel. He was later employed at Gulf State Tubing Corporation in Rosenberg, Texas, where he retired to continue raising cattle and farming.
In 1993, Eugene along with his wife, Narva, became proud owners of Ben Davis Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas, until his death. His gentle demeanor and sincere empathy provided comfort to countless families over the years. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Beyond working many hours on the farm, Eugene enjoyed spending time with the cowboys of Black History Riders of America.&n

Barbara Anne Thiele, 88, of Wharton, TX went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was born in Houston, TX on March 11, 1930 to the late Rev. Anton and Ada Baepler Froehlich. Barbara was raised in the Houston area. She later attended and graduated from St. John’s Lutheran College in Winfield, KS with a teaching degree. She married Henry Charles Thiele on July 19, 1953 in Houston, TX, and they shared 58 loving years together before his death in 2011. Barbara worked as a teacher in the Bishop area before becoming a mother. Barbara and Henry later moved to Bay City, TX, where they lived for 23 years raising their family. She was a devoted housewife who was a very caring mother, good cook, and supportive of her children’s activities. In 1984, Barbara and her husband moved to Wharton, TX where she lived for 34 years. She was a faithful member of St John’s Lutheran Church for many years, very active in the Ladies Aid Society, and always willing to volunteer. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness and caring nature. Her positive spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed camping, sewing, cooking, dominoes and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: four children, Donna and husband Reggy Comer of Mont
