  • Many people who had contributed to the arts, politics and culture of South Asian have passed away this year. Among them is the brilliant Dr. Aijaz Ahmad, who passed away at his home in Irvine, California, in the USA, on 9 March , leaving quite a rich legacy. Aijaz was amongst that unique circle of thinkers who were born in India, moved to Pakistan, and ended up in the US, enriching them all. He was a citizen of each of these three countries at some point in his life.     It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend Aijaz Ahmad, internationally prominent literary and critical theorist, and one of the world’s foremost Marxist thinkers of our time. He died at his home in Irvine on March 9th, , where he was able to take leave of his children and a few close friends including Ph.D. students.

    Aijaz joined the Department of Comparative Literature at UCI in for a position in Global Critical Theory and Comparative Literature, after having previously held various appointments as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in Critical Theory, first in Spring Aijaz Ahmad was one of the leading critical theorists and literary scholars worldwide.
